i like songs that are defiant in some way. i like music that dares us to go beyond the mediocre, that stretches our sense of ourselves. i am turned on by a song when it has the power to completely arrest me and take me somewhere ‒ when i have the urgency to just live inside the energy of the song, however brief.

there really is no rule of thumb for me other than to break the rules as often as is necessary in order to shape a song to mirror the narrative skew of my emotional outlook at the time. that takes priority over everything - song structure, genre, whatever. when i'm in that zone, i like to think of myself as a painter first; singer, writer, musician, and producer become the secondary constructs i work from.

i donʼt assign power to the concept of being defined by any one thing.  i mix whatever moves me.  always morphing.  what kind of music do i make?  instinct music.  from the gut out.

what else is there to know?
